Apple Final Cut Studio Review 2. Apple has also lowered the purchase and upgrade prices on Final Cut Studio, making it more affordable for new and upgrading users. The company added over 1.
Power, speed and flexibility for video editors at every stage of the post-production workflow. And now Final Cut Pro X features stunning 3D titles.
Final Cut line. Key features include: Video Editing. Apple chose not to jam- pack the newest version of Final Cut Pro 7 with a lot of new features, but instead chose to focus on enhancing existing features, while still adding some new critical ones. Final Cut Pro 7 is still the best non- linear editing system (or NLE) on the market, and the app is advancing nicely with this version. These new features include the “Share” option, which allows editors to easily export to DVD, Blu- ray, web, Quick. Time formats, i. Pod/i. Phone, Apple TV and more, all in the background so users can keep cutting, even while exporting that specific project.
While Share is an incredible feature, it takes longer to encode and burn a DVD or a Quick. Time format than manually doing so via Compressor and DVD Studio Pro. However, rendering isn't a background process yet, like the Share function. Other new features include expanded offerings in the Pro. Res 4. 22 family, such as Proxy (basic codec for editing), LT (great for broadcast news, sports, etc.), and Pro.
Res 4. 44. 4 (highest quality for visual effects, compositing, etc.); i. Chat Theater support, for showing clients and collaborators the latest edits via video chat; enhanced speed change tools to easily manipulate the speed of footage (slow motion, fast motion, or a mix of both); Global Transitions which allow users to add a transition to multiple edit points at one time vs.
Log and Transfer enhancements, for tapeless media processing; new Floating Timecode options (re- sizable); native AVC- Intra support for Panasonic’s popular codec; and many more. As usual, integration between the other Final Cut Studio apps is terrific, so exporting to Motion, Color, Soundtrack, etc., is easy and fast. The Snow Leopard factor: Doing some tests between Mac OS X Snow Leopard (1.
Leopard (1. 0. 5), there were some decreases in rendering and export times in Snow Leopard vs. Final Cut Pro 7 using the latest Apple operating system. Motion 4 still offers fantastic compositing, animation, effects, and more, and adds support of 3.
D shadows, 3. D reflections, and depth of field options. Motion 4 now takes over for Live. Type as a fantastic titling tool. However, you can keep an older version of Live. Type while working with this latest version of Final Cut Studio. Many editors are still using Adobe After Effects for their motion graphics and animation needs, but Motion 4’s newest features really fill in the gaps of previous versions, making this a compelling app for video editors and animators.
The Share option can be found here, as well. Color 1. 5, the premiere color corrector and grader (which was Final. Touch until Apple acquired the company), retains the clunky user interface (UI) of 1. Users were hoping Apple would update the UI with version 2. Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Motion, and Soundtrack Pro, but that may come down the line. Some editors may recall DVD Studio Pro 1/1.
UNfriendly UI when it debuted in 2. DVD Studio Pro was originally DVDirector from Astarte, which Apple bought in 2. In addition, 4. K resolution support is included (for editors cutting footage from the RED Digital Cinema systems); much easier “round- tripping” between Final Cut Pro and Color; AVC- Intra native support; and new “Look” options from Apple which allow users to create specific colors, etc., with the click of a button and full control of that Look.
DVD Studio Pro still hasn’t been updated since version 4 came out in 2. Final Cut Studio 1. All the usual DVD authoring tools are available except that there’s no Blu- ray authoring or burning support.
That can be found in Final Cut Pro 7 and Compressor 3. Blu- ray menu. Compressor 3. Share and Batch Template options; enhanced Droplets (creates custom encoding preset); enhanced networking via Apple Qmaster, which works with all Final Cut Studio apps; and image sequence support, for projects going to 3. The latest version of Compressor also includes the Easy Export/Share option, so when opened, a list of choices to create a DVD, Blu- ray, or Quick. Time format is presented.
Cinema Tools 4. 5 carries on the tradition of excellent film management tools that it has provided for years. Drag- and- drop to create a new database; create and update change lists with XML files that detail new and original versions of what’s being worked on; and the ability to monitor DPX files created from using ultra high definition footage (such as that from the RED ONE camera) or film scans via telecine. Qmaster 3 allows users to spread processes across multiple processor cores (Intel) or a network of computers, thus speeding up those processes, such as rendering a sequence or exporting to multiple formats.
These can be set up in System Preferences, and many users have had different results, depending on the primary system’s specs, along with what other types of computers are set up in a network. Native Support. Gone are the days of waiting for native support of a hot new camera and its codec. Since Final Cut Pro is the NLE of choice for many editors, camera companies work closely with Apple to bring native support, or a way to use intermediate codecs (such as Pro.
Res 4. 22) so users can easily cut a variety of high definition, standard definition, or even the growing ultra high definition footage, without worrying about compatibility. Video format support includes HD, SD; DV, DVCAM, DVCPRO (including DVCPRO 5. DVCPRO HD (P2), XDCAM HD and EX, AVCHD (via Pro. Res 4. 22), AVC- Intra, and RED (via additional software from RED). Multiple frame rates are supported, too, including 6. PAL), 6. 0p, 3. 0p, 2.
